The Mideast Peace Project is a grass roots organization of Jewish Americans and Arab Americans committed to setting an example of how our two communities can work and live in peace in order to create momentum for achieving a just peace in the Middle East.
This program has larger objectives for each phase of the program with the ultimate goal of creating peace in the Mideast. The first major project is to design an effective mechanism whereby Jewish and Arab Americans can overcome the barriers that divide them. Help bring them together in ways that they feel like they can understand each other better and with new found trust and friendships begin to work towards creating a peace process that begins here in America.
The discussions take place in a few hours and the ability to delve deeply into the feelings and emotions of the attendees as well as begin to untangle the complexities of the conflict of the Mideast within this format is impossible. Usually, there is no trained facilitator present to direct the discussions in ways that can begin to channel the discussions effectively. Furthermore, the ability to get to know each other is limited so that the trust amongst the participants necessary to allow them to open up and express their true feelings has not been created.
