Zachary Berk is the Co-chair of the Mideast Peace Project. Professionally he is the Managing Director and co-founder of KBL Healthcare Ventures. KBL is a venture capital fund focused on the healthcare industry. Zachary Berk has been in the healthcare industry for over 30 years; sixteen years as an optometrist and 16 years doing healthcare venture capital.
Zachary has been involved in the peace movement since 1967, when he started Open Arts in Madison, Wisconsin. There he was working on developing a holistic approach to peace making. In 1978, Zachary was president and founder of the Peace Project for six years and it was also located in Madison. The purpose of the old Peace Project was to get people to take responsibility for creating world peace while simultaneously working on creating peace in their own lives.
Zachary took a hiatus from social activism until the beginning of 2002, when he felt compelled to initiate a Middle East grass roots peace movement. He felt that the governments of the United States, Israel and Palestine could benefit from an organization that represented both Arab and Jewish Americans.
